About the Course
This course provides a deep understanding of the complex global crisis of sustainability, and will explore the need for new and innovative relationships between sustainability and the design of objects. The subject remains an unchartered territory yet to be fully explored and there are many relevant issues that designers have yet to address. This course will therefore investigate new possibilities and innovative ways in which objects can create highly rewarding experiences for their users (and for society) at the same time as achieving a high degree of sustainability. You will discover design tools, mechanisms, systems and scenarios capable of transforming what might be, for the user, an often unpleasant design aesthetic in the act of saving energy, materials and natural resources into an enjoyable experience - one that can even lead to desire.
Course Leader
Nikolas Koronis graduated in architecture from the Welsh School of Architecture, where a year later he also did his Masters degree. He then moved to Milan where he attended Domus Academy and obtained the Master in Design. He spent a year as a design tutor, after which he started his PhD in architecture at the Architectural Association in London. He has also been a Fellow at Central Saint Martins, and has taught, lectured and undertaken research on architecture, product design and urban design.
Topics Covered
You will spend time investigating future strategies for addressing sustainable design issues. The objective? To investigate and elaborate the elements of a new, but not yet visualised, sustainable aesthetic.
Who Should Attend?
Anyone studying or working in design who is inquisitive, has an open mind to new ideas, enjoys discussing their ideas and the ideas of others and anyone with a strong interest in the field who is looking to improve the knowledge of contemporary design in a Milan context.
