About the Course
It is so old that its history is a history of time itself. London goes beyond any boundary or convention. It is illimitable. It is infinite London. Peter Ackroyd. The emphasis of this course is to take you on a journey of design discovery in the culturally vibrant and inspiring city - London. On this journey you will get an insight into the design history of London whilst learning where the best London designers get their inspiration. You will understand how one simple design concept can be used in many different areas such as interior and spatial design, theatre set design, costume design, graphic design and even car design. Lectures will be occasionally based at the college, however this course will mostly concentrate on taking you outside of the college and being on location. You will visit museums and art exhibitions, back stage at theatres, design studios and practices, hotels and restaurants, private business and leisure clubs, markets and shops, whilst simultaneously learning about the history of London design. Guest speakers will illustrate their lectures by taking you to relevant sites. The aim of this course is to give you a tour of the best of design in London with plenty of variety reflecting the breadth of this discipline. Throughout the course you will be encouraged to collect information (course notes, museum leaflets, sketches etc) and will be asked to present conceptual boards reflecting your inspirations at the end. This in turn can become a valuable addition to your own portfolio.
